The cost of data breaches is continuing to grow, yet many businesses are not taking action to mitigate both physical and cyber security risks.
Shred-it's 6th annual State of the Information Security Industry report shows that even as the security landscape evolves, and new threats develop, businesses are deprioritising information security. Many organisations either fail to properly understand the extent of the threats facing them, or are growing complacent, leading to otherwise preventable data breaches. Low awareness of the planned widespread reform to data protection law, in the form of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) due to be enforced from May 2018, will potentially leave companies exposed to huge punitive fines and reputational damage.
As the EU prepares for this new legislation, this year’s Shred-it State of the Industry Report has a strong focus on what the GDPR means for companies handling the data of EU citizens, as well as an overview of the broader data security situation.
