Businesses are becoming evermore aware of the need for ID verification in order to minimise the risks associated with fraud, one industry commentator has asserted.
Speaking to regional news provider the Manchester Evening News, Robert Guice, UK executive vice-president of Shred-it, noted that this awareness of the need to ensure that sensitive data is protected is not exclusive to either the public sphere or private enterprise.
"Public and private sector organisations have grown more aware of the risks associated with breaches of confidential data," he explained, in comments that may carry extra weight when one considers the current economic climate.
The sector analyst made his remarks following a statement from the American Association of Retired Persons, which was published earlier this month.
In the release, the not-for-profit body said that the run-up to Christmas is a prime time for identity thieves to strike, meaning that ID verification services could be in even greater demand than they usually are.
