Corporate history

Shred-it was founded by the late Greg Brophy in 1988. Shred-it's success has been built on the strengths of our people and an uncompromising commitment to compliance, a responsive service and total customer satisfaction.

Given our commitments, it's not surprising that the past 20 years has been a period of tremendous growth and accomplishment. We have seen our organisation grow to more than 140 branches, servicing over 150,000 customers on 5 continents.

1990	Shred-it expands across Canada
1993	Shred-it enters U.S. market
1995	Shred-it starts operations in Asia
1996	Shred-it starts operations in South America
1998	Shred-it starts operations in Europe
1999	Shred-it opens its first franchise in the UK on the M4 Corridor
2000	Shred-it opens the West Yorkshire franchise
2001	Shred-it opens branches in Manchester, Birmingham, North East of London and Northern Ireland
2002	Shred-it opens branches in Glasgow, East of Scotland, London West and Newcastle
2003	Shred-it opens branches in Exeter and Portsmouth
2004	Shred-it Foundation established
2005	Shred-it is assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2000
2007	Shred-it is assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 Shred-it is assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of BS8470
2008	Shred-it opens branches in London City and Milton Keynes Shred-it shreds and recycles over 35,000 tonnes of paper Shred-it introduces it’s first static shredder in London West
2009	Shred-it opens the Nottingham branch in July Shred-it customer base grows to over 17,000 businesses in the UK and Ireland Shred-it is assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of BS EN 15713:2009
