Corporate social responsibility

Shredding services in the community

Identity theft and corporate fraud are on the rise, threatening not only businesses but consumers and local communities as well. Far too often, in homes around the UK, old personal and confidential documents are disposed of with the household waste or recycling, leaving consumers at risk of becoming victims of identity fraud.

In an effort to raise awareness of identity theft and promote prevention, Shred-it organises Community Shred events around the UK, offering free paper shredding services to the general public.

Held in easily accessible locations, from police stations to shopping centre car parks, Shred-it’s community shredding events provide local residents and businesses with the opportunity to have their confidential documents destroyed free of charge.

At a designated time, our mobile shredding trucks arrive at the location of the community shredding event, upon which local residents are welcome to bring along their important confidential documents for us to destroy, there and then. Whatever you want to shred, be it personal documents and old bank statements or outdated business accounts and invoices, our state-of-the-art shredders can do the job quickly and securely.

Often held with the participation and endorsement of local media, law enforcement or government agencies, our events aim to increase awareness about the importance of document destruction by bringing local communities together and highlighting the issue of information security.

So what’s in it for us?

The answer is simple. Community Shred events raise awareness about the serious issue of identity theft, and make our communities safer places to live. Generating goodwill with potential new customers and strengthening existing customer relationships also makes good business sense.
